A Personal Response

There is an example of each of the three generations --- my uncle's family.

My uncle's family immigrated into United States many years ago when he was a little child. His parents are the generation 1: adults born and raised in another country. They born in China and got married, had child, then immigrated into United States. And their son --- my uncle, born in China and came to the new country with their parents before 18 and has gone through the school system of United States, so he is the typical generation 1.5. In addition, my uncle's wife is a local American who born and grew up in United States . And my uncle's son is generation 2, but not typical, Because he born in United States and his father born in another country, but his mother born in United States.

This is an interesting family which is a good example for our text.

When my uncle's family immigrated into United States, my uncle was so young so that he accepted the new school system and adapt to the new life quickly, eventually, his thinking and behaviours were also became so "Americanized" which let him get along with American children well. Then, most of his friends are American. He also speaks Chinese with his parents, but he can't read and write it. So interesting! Moreover, although his parents immigrated into United States many years, but they preferred to speak Chinese and make Chinese friends. And their grandson --- my uncle's son, he can't understand any Chinese at all and he is an entire American, as what we say "ABC", "banana".

Today, all of them are American, but become real American with defferent speed.

Ich bin ein Berliner (I am a Berliner)

This speech was given by John F. Kennedy, delivered 26 June 1963, West Berlin.

Background:
After World War 2, Russia and United States were both super powerful countries in the world. They were both wealthy and owned a lot of martial weapons. These two countries fight with each other because they wanted to be the leader of the whole world. Then, old war was ended but new one was beginning. Unfortunately, Berlin became the new battlefront.
Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and destroyed in 1990. It divided Berlin into two parts-- west Berlin and east Berlin and was a symbolic building of German separation and the cold. West Berlin built it in order to prevent the people from communicating. It seemed like a war between west Berlin and east Berlin, but it was the cold war between Russia and United States. Thus, many families were separated by the ridiculous war and couldn't see each other for about 28 years.

I think the main theme of John F. Kennedy's speech is that we need freedom and peace for Germany but not war or separation.

John F. Kennedy, a man who was the most famous president of United States.

Freedom has many difficulties and democracy is not perfect. The German should live in a peaceful country which is full of freedom but not be divided into two parts, lose freedom, no peace. While the wall is the most obvious and vivid demonstration of the failures of the Communist system.

Surely, the key event in this speech is that west Berlin built the Berlin Wall to separate Berlin.

John F. Kennedy wanted to tell audiences that what is true of this city of Germany: Real, lasting peace. All the west Berliners should fight against the enemy for freedom and peace. No matter how dangerous the road would be and how hard the process would be. He gave the audiences hope and the confidence to live, encouraged the Germany to find a free and peaceful world.


However, what's the American's real idea? eat Germany? control the world?

This paragraph mainly tells us that Lin's family went to have dinner in a good restaurant called Lakeview to celebrate her father's promotion. Unfortunately, because they don't know so much about the American table manners, they did something which made Lin feel so embarrassed, such as they can't understand the French menu, slurped soup.

It reminds me of my similar experience. One day, I went to have dinner with my family in a elegant and beautiful restaurant. When we were ordering foods, we were confused because it was our first time to go there and there were many delicious foods which made us don't know what to try was better. My father standed up and walked around all the restaurant and somtimes talked to the customers, pointing their foods, we all felt confused. "What is he doing ?" I asked myself. After he came back, he told me that he just wanted to see what others were eating and we could make a decision better. I really felt so embarrassed to death. How come ?!


Anyway.. It's fictional...

Tiger Man !!

This time, I wanna introduce you a famous golf player ----Tiger Woods.

There are superman, batman, spider man..

Why not call him Tiger man ?

OK.. just joking...




Tiger Woods was born Eldrick Woods on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California.


Woods started as a young golf wunderkind who grew up to become a master player.


I think the environment he grew up in is a important factor of his success. Because he is the son of an African American Army Officer father and a Thai mother, he learned to play as child. His father, Earl, served as his teacher and mentor. Around the age of eight, Woods showed off his skills on such television shows as GOOD MORNING AMERICA .





Furthermore, he studied at Stanford University
and won a number of amateur of U.S. golf titles before
turning professional in 1996.
After that, he won so many awards and earned a lot of money from different Open competitions. Such
as the U.S. Open, the British Open, the Western
Open, the Open Championship and so on. So, he became the most famous and successful golf player.








OK. Let me tell you something not so serious.

Woods married his longtime girlfriend, Elin Nordegren, a Swedish model and former nanny, in October.

His wife gave birth to the couple's first child, Sam Alexis Woods, on June 18, 2007. After taking some time off to welcome his daughter, he won the World Golf Championship and US PGA Championship in August 2007.

There was an unhappy event happened in early 2008, Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman was suspended for two weeks for saying young players who wanted to challenge Tiger Woods should " lynch him in a back alley." This is a very impolite and crude comment which annoyed many people but not Tiger Woods. Woods did not call for punishment of Tilghman. We can see that Tiger Woods is such a kind and munificent man.

In fact, I don't know anything about golf or Woods before. I think golf is a game that only the super rich person can afford so I never interested in it.
But why I know him ?
I remember that in 2001, it was the first time that Tiger Woods came to China. Because he was invited to take part in a golf competition in my City -- Shenzhen.
And there were many photos and articles about him those days.

Unfortunately, Tiger Woods will miss the rest of season because his left knee requires more reconstructive surgery, his Web site announced Wednesday (June 18, 2008)
Woods also revealed he suffered a double stress fracture in his left tibia weeks before the U.S. Open tournament, ignoring doctors' advice to take six weeks off to let it heal.

It's time to let ur dog enjoy!!

This week, I read an interesting article.The title is PET PROJECT - Man's best garden, by BETTIJANE LEVINE.
It is a passage that tells you how to make a very nice doghouse and introduces you a Landscape architect Stephanie Rubin and her partner,sculptor Chris Isner.
They sell doghouses with rooftop gardens for $ 1000~$ 4000. OH !!GOD!! It is very expensive,right? Even more expensive than your house.. ok~ Just a joke!~
They suggest the people who is interested in their products go to their website first and come up your own general design or scan for ideas.

And then,it tells us so many specific ways and skills to build an ideal doghouse,such as how to glue two walls together without gap and present the flies flying into it,cover the rooftop with two layers of melted natural beeswax,how to plant some small trees or flowers on it,etc.
Anyway, after I read this article.I learned many useful words about housing although I don't need them in a short time .
When I saw the headline ,I was absorbed and decided to read it .Because it is the first time I find an article about building a doghouse.So the dogs' lifestyle is always been ignored before.Do you think so? But many people must feel opposite about it.They will say:"Our lifestyle is becoming worse and worse,where can I get the money for the doghouse?" I know,there are so many people who are too poor to feed them up.. So this is just a good passage for those rich and leisure man ,not us .
This article reminds me of the last dog I fed, it is a long and sad story.. Ok~ Forget it ~
I don't know when I can have my own house and dogs, money,time.. and then built a nice doghouse for them,
Haha..I hope it is coming soon!
